Oba – the African Deity of Marriage & Domesticity
In the soft glow of the hearth, where families gather and vows are sworn, dwells Oba-the goddess of marriage, loyalty, and the bittersweet bonds of love. Her spirit is gentle yet fierce, for no flame burns brighter than devotion-and no shadow darker than betrayal.
Long ago, Oba was the dutiful wife of Shango, the thunder god. Out of love, she sacrificed too much-tricked by rivals, she offered him her very ear in a meal meant to prove her worth. Instead, she was mocked, humiliated, and cast aside. From that day, she became a spirit of haunted devotion, her sorrow lingering where broken vows echo.
On Halloween night, when spirits walk among us, Oba drifts between doorways and windows. Some say she appears in the corners of homes where arguments rise, her presence a chill in the air. She listens to whispers of jealousy, rage, and regret. To faithful lovers, she brings blessings of protection and unity. But to the unfaithful… she is vengeance cloaked in silence.
They say if you see a woman with a veil over her face standing at the edge of your bed, do not speak her name. If it is Oba, she has come to test the strength of your promises. Fail, and the hearth grows cold forevermore.
On this night of masks and shadows, Oba reminds us: love is power, loyalty is sacred-and betrayal carries a curse older than the grave.
