Why Fire Has No Friends

The Leopard and fire were once very good friends. The Leopard always visited Fire, but during the lengthy period of their friendship, fire never visited the Leopard.  The Leopard was very unhappy and felt that his friend did not appreciate him.  So one day, the Leopard poured out his heart to Fire and made him understand why he should reciprocate the visits or their long-lasting relationship would come to an end.  Fire laughed briefly and showed some degree of eagerness to please his friend.

They agreed on when Fire would visit, but Fire gave Leopard some instructions, one of which was to ensure that there would be sufficient firewood all the way to the house before the visit.  Secondly, Leopard’s compound should have a big bundle of firewood so it may burn on them during the visit.  Although it was an arduous task, the Leopard obeyed all the instructions just to ensure that fire had no excuse.

On the evening of the visit, fire found its way to Leopard’s hut by burning through the firewood the Leopard had arranged.  They had fun during the visit until the fire consumed the big bundle of firewood, and they had no other place to get hold of.  The Leopard started running helter-skelter in search of firewood or anything that might sustain fire. It found only a few grasses, but fire immediately burnt them to ashes and requested more.  When there was Nothing to make fire flame, it immediately flew on the Leopard’s hut and started consuming the reeds.  The Leopard attempted to stop Fire from burning down the hut, but Fire warned the Leopard thoroughly.  After further attempts, the Leopard ran off with wounds when it discovered the friend was completely beyond control.

That is why fire has no friends, and Leopard has spots on his body.  A reminder of the wounds it suffered from Fire while pleading for the hut to be spared.
